Nigerian Authorities Apprehend Alleged Mastermind of 2022 Train Attack


 

Nigerian authorities reported on Thursday the arrest of Ibrahim Abdulahi, believed to be the orchestrator behind a fatal terrorist attack on a moving train in 2022, resulting in the deaths of ten passengers.

 

The arrest took place during a police raid near the Abuja-Kaduna road flyover at the Rido junction, as stated by Police Force public relations officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi during a press briefing.

 

Adejobi disclosed that Abdulahi, also known as "Mande," confessed to leading the criminal syndicate responsible for terrorizing the Abuja-Kaduna highway. '


He purportedly admitted involvement in various violent incidents, including the abduction of 20 students from Greenfield University in Kaduna in 2021 and the train attack in 2022.

 

Authorities acted on a crucial tip-off leading to Abdulahi's arrest, shedding light on his alleged role in the train attack that claimed ten lives and led to the abduction of at least 61 passengers.

 

Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

 

The 2022 train attack, characterized by explosions and gunfire, prompted swift action from authorities, who subsequently suspended train services for nine months. Upon reopening, heightened security measures and armed escorts were implemented for passenger safety.

 

Security analyst Senator Iroegbu refrained from commentary but emphasized the imperative for proactive security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. 


The Nigerian populace seeks reassurance and anticipates swift preemptive actions to safeguard lives and property.
