Charles Manson, raised in an abusive home, spent much of his youth in prison. After moving to Los Angeles to pursue a music career, his obsession with control and religious manipulation led him to form the "Manson Family." In August 1969, Manson ordered his followers to murder actress Sharon Tate, her friends, and others in a brutal attack, scrawling messages in blood. The following night, they similarly murdered the LaBiancas. The murders shrouded in theories of revenge and delusion, marked the dark end of the 1960s, forever tainting the era of "free love" with fear and horror.
