Fire Scare on United Airlines Flight
A United Airlines plane had to stop before takeoff. The plane was at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. It was heading to New York City.
The plane was United Airlines Flight 1382. It was an Airbus A319. It was supposed to leave at 8:35 a.m. on Sunday, February 2. But something went wrong.
Fire Reported on the Plane
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the plane had an engine problem. The crew decided to stop the takeoff.
A passenger recorded a video. The video showed something that looked like a fire. A flight attendant told passengers to stay calm. But someone shouted, "No, it's on fire!"
The plane did not take off. Instead, the crew helped passengers get out. They used stairs and an emergency slide.
Everyone Got Out Safely
There were 104 passengers and five crew members on board. United Airlines said everyone got off safely.
Buses took the passengers back to the terminal. A new plane was arranged to take them to New York at 2:00 p.m.
Fire Department Responds
The Houston Fire Department (HFD) saw the video of the fire. But when they arrived, they did not see any flames.
"HFD did not put out a fire on this incident," they said.
Other Recent Plane Crashes
This incident comes at a time of concern for flight safety.
On January 29, two planes crashed into the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. A U.S. Army helicopter hit an American Airlines plane. All 67 people on board are presumed dead.
On January 31, another crash happened in Philadelphia. A small Learjet 55 took off and disappeared from radar. It crashed near homes and a shopping mall. At least seven people died.
Safe But Scary
The passengers on United Flight 1382 were lucky. They got out safely. But the event was scary. Aviation officials are now checking what happened.
Air travel is mostly safe. But when problems happen, crews must act fast. This time, they did.
