O.J. Simpson to Be Cremated, The Goldmans to Receive Zero from His $3 Million Net Worth

Simpson Estate Executor Malcolm LaVergne Says the Goldmans Will Get Nothing

15th April  2024

O.J. Simpson, the former NFL star who passed away last week at the age of 76, will be cremated in the coming days, according to his longtime lawyer and executor of his estate, Malcolm LaVergne.

LaVergne has clarified that there are no intentions to donate Simpson’s brain to science for studying chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease linked to repeated head injuries, despite inquiries received regarding this matter.

LaVergne emphasizes that Simpson’s entire body, including his brain, will be cremated, dismissing any possibility of brain donation.

Plans for a “celebration of life” gathering limited to close friends and family are also in the works.

Simpson is survived by his children from two marriages. He gained notoriety for his involvement in the murder trial of his second wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman, of which he was acquitted in 1995.

Addressing earlier comments regarding the Goldman family’s involvement in Simpson’s estate, LaVergne acknowledged the need to dial down the rhetoric and focus on his role as the executor.

O.J. Simpson Estate: Dispute Over Goldman Family Payout

Following O.J. Simpson’s passing last week due to prostate cancer, discussions about the distribution of his estate have emerged.

Particularly concerning is a $33.5 million wrongful death judgment awarded in a civil lawsuit filed by the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Malcolm LaVergne has expressed firm opposition to any payments to the Goldman family.

LaVergne has emphasized his determination to prevent the Goldmans from receiving any portion of Simpson’s estate.

He stated, “It’s my hope that the Goldmans get zero, nothing.” He underscored his commitment to this stance, vowing to use his authority as the estate’s executor to ensure the Goldmans receive no compensation.

The Simpson's Breakable Trust

Simpson’s will, filed in a Clark County court in Nevada, places his property into a trust, known as The Orenthal Simpson Revocable Living Trust, established in January 2024.

While the exact value of Simpson’s estate remains undisclosed, sources place it at around $3 Million. LaVergne has clarified that the process of assessing the true value of OJ Simpson's estate is ongoing.

According to Nevada law, estates exceeding $20,000 in assets or involving real estate must undergo court proceedings within 30 days of the individual’s death to settle debts and allocate assets.

Despite pressure from the families, LaVergne notes that Simpson was never compelled by a court order to pay the civil judgment.

His remarks regarding the Goldmans were influenced in part by past events, including Simpson’s proposed book, “If I Did It,” which the Goldman family gained control of and retitled “If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer.”

According to David Cook, who represents the Goldman family, Simpson had only paid a small portion of the 1997 judgment.

Due to accrued interest, the original debt has now ballooned to over $114 million, significantly impacting any potential payouts. LaVergne says that no judge ordered Simpson to pay the amount.

Simpson has specified his four children as beneficiaries. It stipulates that if any beneficiary challenges its provisions, they will receive only one dollar and no more, effectively disinheriting them from Simpson's estate.

These legal intricacies underscore the complexity of settling Simpson's affairs and highlight the contentious nature of his legacy.
